If the soil is right
2000 year old seeds can sprout and grow

A well-pigmented poet friend
who spent her young years in DC
returned the first time Trump was in
and saw lynch in every policeman's eye

In all of us may lie all seeds
and some of them are weeds

Maybe that
is why we have hoes

There's not a lot of joy
and precious little thanks
in pointing out the greed of priests
and the falseness of false prophets
and how that sort of thing
can cause temples and cities to fall
and you might get thrown down a well

Which might be causing
today's poets and prophets some pause

is spreading across the land
filled with blitzkrieg lightning

Two hundred and forty years ago
Robert Burns plowedshared through
a field mouse's home and contritely wrote:

That wee-bit heap o’ leaves an’ stibble
Has cost thee monie a weary nibble!
Now thou’s turn’d out, for a’ thy trouble,

Magaman promising now
to replay the incident with intent
to plow through and scatter the straw
of all that they have earned and built

O, what a panic’s anns an breasties

With some comfort later in the poem

In her youth she'd been a Hitler Youth
filled with purpose and power
and the joy of pre-teen camaraderie

All now dimmed and damned wheen seen
through smoke from Auschwitz ovens
though somewhere in her still it shines
brightest diamond of her life

This was the story, or was it two
she sought my help to put to poem

That was thirty years ago
I might do a better job today
informed by watching rallies
filled with power hope and joy
and how it will look in their regret
