A German woman rich in years and living now in Austin
asked for some help with a poem she was trying to write

As a young girl she had been part of the Hitler Youth
whose slogan was Strength Through Joy and she felt both
and more alive than she had ever felt before or even since

What she knew now had a choke-hold of “You can’t write that”
the truth of pure feeling bemuddled with the truth of leaders lying

With help she got it written - it might mean something to you now

didn’t think they were pagans)

If these days keep getting shorter
we’re going to go all Ragnarök

beyond our power it calls for gods
to turn this tide we cannot turn

Here’s one big and blonded now
who promises best days return

Let’s build an altar brilly quick
and give him what he’d take

Votes and gropes and cherry pie
tis he not us controls the sky

The Fire Walk

There’s a trick to
walking across a bed of coals
hot enough to melt an engine block

The trick
at least the first time
is to watch someone do it
like a spring walk in the park
bare feet soft on dew-wet grass

The no trick at all
is to follow them along that path

Author’s experience was in the Big Sur area near Monterey California
