What Google Hath Wrought And Not

Fourth in the series of five Thanksgiving poems from Leaflet: a poem progression. Written in Austin Texas, Thanksgiving 2014, re-celebrated, Canadian Thanksgiving 2020
A WEEK IN THE REDWOODS
Trees taller than a cell phone tower
The iPhone says
you are not getting your messages
the Redwoods say – listen
THE WORM TURNS
Remember
back in the day
when jocks had the locks
and geeks were nerds and nerds
and the nerds were geeks
But today
our computer has a virus
and they’re
like the gods of Greeks
PICTURE A SNOWFLAKE
Picture a snowflake
Post it to the internet
Million now alike
NOVEMBER 11, 2004
It is Remembrance Day in Canada
Veterans Day in the good old USA
I am working from the house
faxes come in and faxes go out
People write me nice letters and send
beautiful pictures through the computer
I say “I love technology”
And then I remember
In Fallujah today
people in tanks as big as trains
are pushing pretty red buttons
and blowing out real people’s brains
